Mi Work Matters Employment Ambassador Job Description
About the Organization:
Mi Work Matters is on a mission to create, sustain, and advocate for meaningful, community based employment opportunities for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) in southeast Michigan. We are committed to promoting a diverse community that draws from all segments of society, that is free from discrimination and harassment, and where all individuals are treated with fairness, respect, equity, and dignity. The Mi Work Matters Employment Ambassadors will model the inclusion of people with I/DD in the workplace, sharing their own experience as an employee and provide information about the benefits of hiring someone with I/DD. The project combines self-advocacy with empowering education for employers and job seekers. Our Ambassadors are role models for their peers and will do presentations to peer groups and students, in addition to businesses/employers. We are looking for a diverse group of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities that will represent our mission and vision. Required skills, experience and job duties include, but are not limited to:
● Presenting information in front of large groups virtually and in-person
● Contributing and providing feedback on the presentation
● Promoting Anastasia and Katie’s Coffee Shop & Cafe within the community
● Representing Mi Work Matters’ mission and vision
● Willing to share information about your strengths and challenges as an employee with a disability
● Projecting a positive and professional attitude
● Serving as a role model to other job seekers with I/DD
● Sharing information about your current/past workplace experiences
● Committing to attending rehearsals leading up to each presentation
● Committing to giving at least 2 presentations in 12 months
● Committing to a 1 year position
● Having previous paid work experience
● Must be at least 18 years of age or older to apply
Training will be provided. Ambassadors will be paid for each presentation and training.
